Helpful Hints For Bloated kids, give Pepto-Bismol, Milk of Magnesia or Beano When weaning, move the does and leave the kids in the pasture they are familiar with. Keep water tanks clean and fresh. Wash the tank with bleach to keep algae at a minimum and mix bleach or bluing with water to retard algae growth. Use 1/2 cup bleach for 4 X 2 tank. Add enough bluing to color the water. After a complicated or breech birth, tickle the kids nose with hay or grass to make them cough and sneeze to clear the airway. Place bells on goats to deter predators. Use Gator Aide to hydrate and baby aspirin for pain relief. Have goats walk on shingles or crushed rocks to keep feet trimmed. When castrating or weaning, work with the signs of the moon in the Farmer's Almanac. Use 1/4 cup fruit pectin to 25 gallons water to prevent urinary calculi. Milk replacer: Mix1 gallon whole milk, 16 oz. evaporated milk, 8 oz. whole buttermilk. Be sure kid has had colostrum first. Cover the water tank so algae can't grow.
